About Us

The Williamsburg International Film Festival, voted top 20 coolest film festival by MovieMaker Magazine, is now an online competition. Enter your film, screenplay, music video, trailer, web episode or commercial and receive the recognition you need for a successful festival run.

Winners are promoted on our website and social networks. Submissions open every October and winners are announced on the website in September. Check our website for the exact date.

At WILLiFEST, we always prided ourselves on elevating the filmmaker's experience. This festival was created for the artist, by artists, and we look forward to taking you, your project or your screenplay to the next level.

The categories of entries we are currently accepting for the next Williamsburg International Online Competition are as follows:

U.S. Narrative Feature Film Competition
Any narrative work of fiction with a running time of at least 50 minutes. In order to qualify as a U.S. Narrative Feature Film, the submitted project must be either scripted or improvisational fiction.

U.S. Documentary Feature Film Competition
Any non-fiction film with a running time of at least 50 minutes, NOT including entirely scripted or improvised fictionalizations of actual events.

International Narrative Feature Film Competition
Any narrative work of fiction with a running time of at least 50 minutes. In order to qualify as an International Narrative Feature Film, the submitted project must be either scripted or improvisational fiction, and production must have occurred outside of the United States.

International Documentary Feature Film Competition
Any non-fiction film with a running time of at least 50 minutes, NOT including entirely scripted or improvised fictionalizations of actual events. The film must be unscripted and production must have occurred outside of the United States.

U.S. Short Narrative Film Competition
Any narrative film of U.S. origin with a running time of 49 minutes or less.

U.S. Short Documentary Film Competition
Any documentary film of U.S. origin with a running time of 49 minutes or less.

International Narrative Short Film Competition
Any narrative film of international origin with a running time of 49 minutes or less. Production must have occurred outside of the United States.

International Documentary Short Film Competition
Any documentary film of international origin with a running time of 49 minutes or less. Production must have occurred outside of the United States.

Student Film Competition
Any U.S. or International narrative or documentary film of any length completed while attending any level of educational institution.

Animated Film Competition
Any animated film in any style of animation from any country of origin with a running time of under 61 minutes.

Music Video Competition
Any film or video in sync to music from any country of origin with a running time of less than 15 minutes.

Screenplay Competition
Any feature-length, English-language, narrative screenplay of any genre. Scripts must have a minimum page count of 4 pages and a maximum page count of 280.

Soundtrack Competition
A film or video music soundtrack or score from any category of film or video from any country of origin.

Commercial Competition
Any film or video that sells a product or service from any country of origin with a running time of less than 10 minutes. This category also includes Public Service Announcements (PSAs).

TV/Web Episode Competition
Any episodic television or web program from any country of origin with a running time of 60 minutes or less.

Trailer Competition
Any trailer that promotes a film, television show or web series from any country of origin with a running time of 8 minutes or less.
