Drawing on the absence of light, like painting with silence, Ana Maria’s designs employ juxtaposition, harsh shadows, and subtle textures to adapt to and flow with the existing environment. Through this approach she creates abstract and disorienting dream worlds that draw the audience deeper into an experience. Inspired by diverse aesthetic movements from Romanticism to Dadaism and the colorful characters of daily life, her designs in various mediums, including film, bring the interiority of human emotions to light. Her designs have appeared in the Arsht Center, MDC Live Arts, the Koubek Center, Miami Light Project, and MTC Sandbox. Ana Maria is part of a Miami collective called Mi Casa Su Casa, and
performs with an experimental audiovisual duo, Las Rarxs.
I have been in the industry since 2007.
