About Gabi Nelson:
Born and raised in the vibrant city of Chicago by two artist parents, art and creativity run through my veins like the blood in my body. There is no divide between life and art for me, for it is all one thing that is constantly changing and forming around me. I am a highly emotional person who often attaches a great amount of feeling to every single event of my life. Therefore, my work tends to be based mostly on emotional and physical events that happen to me in my life. I take a lot of inspiration from the events that either caused me great pain or great joy. In the past, my work has been more focused on how my young adult choices were affecting my life, however in current work, I delve deeper into my past to unearth forgotten memories and feelings.
In my current work, I focus on the topic of memory, I create animations that recreate moments of my life. I feel that this work is a strong symbol of remembrance through the eyes of an individual. It brings to life common stories that many humans could relate to. Stories of friendship, foolishness, awkwardness, and of course love.
Currently I work part-time as an In-House editor for Chicago Corporate Photography and Video, but am always looking for more project opportunities. I have a solid amount of mentoring experience in the field of digital literacy. I am well versed in the non-linear editing software, Final Cut Pro, as well as moderately familiar with Adobe After Effects and Photoshop CS5.
