I am a graduate of Hofstra University looking for a full time position in film/video at your facility. While at Hofstra, I studied film production in terms of directing, screenwriting and editing. I wrote, directed and edited four short films during my course of study. I have experience using the Avid editing system, and I enjoy taking a video project that is in pieces and putting it together to make a finished product through artful editing.
I gained valuable on the job editing experience from my summer internship in the Los Angeles Red Car Post Productions office in 2007. My daily responsibilities included black encoding blank tapes for the office to use for recording and copying footage. I would perform quality checks on finished commercials, checking for out of sync sound and picture glitches. I also helped organize the project vault and spent a lot of time digitizing footage for a documentary project one of the lead editors was working on. I also had brief exposure to Avid whereby I lined up a series of takes for a commercial one of the editors was working on to help her decide which take worked best. I really enjoyed my experience at Red Car and am most interested in working as an assistant editor full-time.
I want to be an editor because I enjoy taking a project and putting it together. Back in school, most of my classmates hated sitting in front of a computer for countless hours working on a project, but not me. It’s the type of work that I can say “doesn’t feel like work”. I have a very strong attention to detail which is something I pride myself on. When I’m watching a movie or TV episode, I’m pretty good at picking up on continuity or sound errors.
Beginning my professional career with your company would provide me the opportunity to strengthen my skills in the production process and any other duties in your facility. I would like to gain proficiency in editing programs such as Avid or Final Cut along with special effects programs such as Smoke or After Effects. I am a self-starter and would be a valuable asset to your team. I am very thorough in terms of approaching and completing projects, and I am able to multi-task. I would welcome the opportunity to talk further with you about my skills and how they may apply to any available positions. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
I am a self starter and highly motivated. I am prepared for any challenge you are willing to give me.
This is a short presentation of the three most recent short films that I made while at Hofstra University. I was not able to make this reel from raw footage and had to re-import footage from finished…
