About Me
An Emmy Award winning Sound Engineer with 15 years’ experience in music, television production and post-production, live sound and radio. I have a proven track record of recording, mixing and mastering in all genres of sound production. I have recently moved back from Australia to the United States and I am seeking a related career that will challenge and utilize my skills as a sound and multi-media professional.
My name is Matthew Gagin and I am enquiring about Production Operations Technician position. I have a plethora of experience in the audio, audio-visual, web and television production field. At my previous company, Wealth TV, in San Diego, California U.S.A., I quickly moved from an on-site production sound technician to a post-production sound engineer and musical content producer to, finally, the Director of Audio Production. As the Director of Audio Production I managed all post-production television mixing, sound design, and delivery for premiere and air dates as well as licensing of music and archiving. I began my tenure mixing in stereo then moved into 5.1 surround sound mixing and encoding. In addition to my Director of Audio Production duties, from March 2010 through June 2011, I was the Technical Director and robotic camera operator for Wealth International News. I received a 2011 Pacific South West Emmy award for mixing, sound designing and mastering a television program called In Session: the Damon Castillo Band.
In 2012 Wealth TV added live boxing in 3D and 5.1 surround sound to their broadcast lineup. This allowed me to take my in-studio 5.1 mixing skills and apply it to my live set up and mix experience. The audio-visual setup included integrating audio and video transmission for broadcast in high definition and 5.1 surround sound throughout the in-house audio-visual equipment at various locations including the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and Dover Downs Hotel and Casino in Dover, Delaware. In this capacity I was in charge of and responsible for the delivery, set-up, operation and breakdown of all the equipment necessary to accomplish the production. Late last year I moved to Perth, Australia for an extended working vacation to be near my wife’s family. I was employed at ADA Sound in Perth as a Senior Sound Engineer and AV Technician and more recently for HardHat Media as a digital producer, business development manager and sound engineer. At HardHat Media I had the opportunity to create budgets for the large scale productions that were in preproduction and I was involved in the development of the scheduled outline of the script.
I am up to date on top tier audio recording software such as Pro Tools, Reason, Logic Pro and many others. I am well versed in modern studio operations and recording techniques. I am very familiar with analog recording, analog to digital conversions, and digital signal processing. Following suit, I am also versed in using next generation mixing consoles, third party control surfaces and video production and post-production. I have extensive experience with communications systems such as RTS and others. I have delivered a number of projects over the years that have carried from sound designing television shows and short films using midi triggers in Pro Tools triggering Reason or Ableton to recording and mixing small orchestras and rock bands to contracts for licensing and distribution. I am also fluent in archiving all audio files in a professional broadcast environment.
I am a multi-instrumentalist and compose music. I have recorded two solo records under the name Immovable Objects and a full length record with another band called Waterline Drift. In recent years I have written scores and recorded musical pieces for Wealth TV shows such as Wealth On Wheels, Behind the Name, The Agency: Inside the CIA and for Timex watches. As I mentioned before, I was living in Australia but I have returned to the states. My wife and I went to Perth for a working vacation to be near her family for an extended period. I have a passion for business, sound, film, television, live audio-visual work and production and I am looking for a position that encompasses all of these avenues.
