Served in many Boards such as the Lee County Private Industry Council (for 5 years), Lee County Hispanic Affair Advisory Board and the State of Florida Community Service Block Grant Advisory Committee, Southwest Florida Addiction Services Committee, the Lee County Children´s Home Advocacy Committee, Literacy Volunteers of Lee County, FEMA Board,
1991 I started publishing a weekly Hispanic newsletter (“Que Pasa”) in Lee County which led me to start publishing in 1993 the first Hispanic weekly newspaper in Southwest Florida “La Semana”.
October 3, 1992 I started the first Spanish Radio Station, “Radio Festival” in SW Florida at 1440 AM
On July 1994 I was awarded a 353 Grant from the Department of Education in the State of Florida to Teach English to the migrant and Hispanic population via an innovative “multisensory Family ESOL Program” using a radio station in conjunction with “La Semana” newspaper.
In 2005 I became a “Certified Building Contractor” in the State of Florida and I am the co-owner of Ruben D. Salazar, Inc. that has been in existence since 2003.
