BIO
She holds a B.A. from Bennington College (2001) and a M.A from London Contemporary Dance School (2007). While studying in London, she performed and choreographed through-out Europe. NYC venues in which she has shown work include Ailey CitiGroup Theatre, S.L.A.M warehouse, The World Financial Center, Anita’s Way, Spoke the Hub, Fourth Arts Block Festival, Wassaic Project, Joyce Soho, and Wild Project. She has been an artist in resident at Art Omi, chashama, and Residencias Del Sur in Buenos Aires. She is the recipient of several awards from Canada Council for the Arts. Shandoah has extensive dance film collaborations, in particular, la musica del siempre, a music video for Gotan Project (2009). She extends her choreographic palate to merge with brands, such has Hanky Panky who sponsored her large scale project, 23 Skidoo at NYC’s Flatiron Building with a cast of 42 and an audience of over 500.
Shandoah’s interest lies in exaggerating our human movement vocabulary with all its layers of poetic content; therefore the usual becomes unusual, the real surreal and the recognizable abstract. Her influences include Pina Bausch for her brilliant dance-theatre genre contribution, Trisha Brown for her movement studies and Almodovar for his use of color, character, and location. Eager to invite life’s intricacies into her work to be dissected, re-arranged, formalized and questioned, she is inspired by the Post-Modern art, voyages to foreign lands and the somatic experience.
I have been in the industry since 2001.
