My name is Sam Lubman and I just completed my junior year at the University of Miami studying film and broadcast journalism. I am originally from Walnut Creek, CA and hope to find work locally in the Bay Area.
I have had some experience in the film industry already. In the summer of 2012, I worked for Portal-A Interactive in San Francisco. Portal-A specializes in web-based videos. For most of my time there, I helped work on a 16-part mini-series documentary on the start up company Vungle. My roles in the development of the project included transcribing many of the interviews as well as preparing sequences for editing.
Last summer I took a break from film to work for The Zenith Insurance, which is a workers compensation insurer. At The Zenith, I spent time in the underwriting, claims, legal and marketing departments among others. Although it was not a film-based job, it enabled me to learn how to work in an office setting. My time in the underwriting department taught me the importance of weighing risks and making careful decisions, both of which are needed in the film industry.
I have been very involved with film during my time at the University of Miami. I am currently the Associate Producer for one of our campus' TV shows, "Off the Wire," which specializes in college themed late night comedy. My job as Associate Producer includes making sure that all of our content is suitable to be aired. I feel that this skill could be applied to working with an advertising agency such as yours, as all commercials must be carefully reviewed before they are allowed to air.
I have had extensive work with filming equipment and editing software while attending UM. I have used the HMC 150 and Cannon 5D cameras, as well as the Final Cut and Avid editing software.
I have been in the industry since 2012.
