An interview from the 2014 PhotoPlus Expo in New York City with Seth Emmons of CW-Sonderoptic. CW-Sonderoptic designs and manufacturers premium cinema products including the Leica Summilux-C and Leica Summicron-C prime lenses. In this interview Seth talks with us about the newest addition to the Leica Summicron-C line of prime lenses and PL Mount Adapter for the Leica M Camera.
Introducing to the Summicron-C T.2 line, is the 135mm focal length. These lenses offer a lighter, lower cost alternatives with incredible performance that matches or exceeds the competition, with full coverage up to and including the new RED dragon sensor. The T2.0 Leica Summicron-C prime lenses are built with high ASA/ISO digital cameras in mind, offering plenty of depth of field and performance while maintaining a compact size. Advances in cine lens design allow the Summicron-C lenses to be smaller and more compact than other lenses with comparable performance. Only 4” (101mm) long and weighing between 2.9 and 3.4 pounds (1.3-1.6kg), these lenses are perfect for stabilized rigs, aerial cinematography, underwater cinematography, and stereoscopic 3D. With the newest addition of focal lengths, the Summicron-C line will now feature 9 focal lengths, including the 18mm, 21mm, 25mm, 29mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm and the 135mm.
Seth also shows off a concept adapter that allows PL mount lenses to be used on the Leica M, turning it into a superb Director’s Finder. The PL-to-M mount adapter provides extra support for heavy PL lenses and can easily be attached & detached. The adapter attaches to the latest Leica M 240 in place of the camera’s existing base.
