An interview from the 2015 National Association of Broadcasters Convention in Las Vegas with Nick Hegge of Freefly Systems. Freefly Systems is an industry leader in developing next generation systems in camera stabilization and movement. Freefly Systems’ products include the MoVI line of handheld camera stabilizers and controllers, the ALTA multi-rotor aerial camera platform and the TERO Remote Vehicle. With over a decade of experience in the professional cinematography industry, Freefly Systems has a unique ability to develop and bring innovative products to market that serve both cinema and aerial professionals. In this interview Nick talks with us about the newly announced & ProductionHUB Award of Excellence winning Freefly MIMIC wireless controller.
When the MoVI launched in 2013, Freefly enabled unrestricted camera movement in a way that wasn't possible before. This year camera control technology leaps forward with the MIMIC. With this new, intuitive MoVI Control method, there are no joysticks, knobs or wheels. Just tilt, pan or roll and the MoVI will follow. Move the MIMIC and the MoVI will follow. It's so instant and organic that operators can execute complex moving shots with precise framing after just minutes of practice.
The Freefly MIMIC can be purchased as a beta release of hardware and software from the Freefly Store for $495, with first beta product shipments to customers expected before the end of April, 2015. Even better, existing and future customers of the MoVI Controller will get the MIMIC functionality built in, with a simple, free, firmware release. The firmware will be released simultaneously with the MIMIC hardware beta.
