About

An interview from the 2015 NAB New York Show with Bryan Raymond of ikan Corp. ikan Corp designs, manufactures and distributes a variety of award-winning products used in film, video and photographic production worldwide. In this interview Bryan talks with us about the new ikan Remote Air Pro Three Channel Wireless FIZ System & the DS1 3-axis stabilizer gimbal.

The Remote Air Pro Three Channel Wireless Follow Focus System allows you to pull focus and iris & zoom remotely from up to 300' away. It operates on the 2.4 GHz frequency and allows you to select from 20 channels for best transmission/reception. The high torque motor is good for use with cine style primes and large heavy zooms, while the standard torque motor is good for use with primes, lightweight zooms, and infinitely rotating DSLR style lenses. The remote Hand Unit/Transmitter unit features an OLED screen with a blue readout that displays information confirming your signal settings and battery condition. Users can also connect via their iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to an App Driven Software. The system includes 3 x motors, and the handwheel can be used to control all of them, automatically calibrates your lens and maps the rotation of the lens to the handwheel, providing a consistent workflow, even when using lenses with varying degrees of rotation.

You can adjust the focus stops, and when you are using lenses with infinite rotation, you can program in the near and far focus stops. The handwheel incorporates a rechargeable Li-ion battery, while the motor requires external power, which can be supplied by the included P-Tap cable attached to available batteries. The motor and receiver units incorporate 19mm rod clamps, that feature about an inch of adjustment. The system includes 15mm sleeves that adapt the 19mm rod clamps so you can mount the motor on 15mm rods. The system fits in a water resistant polypropylene hard case with custom cut foam, an o-ring gasket, and pressure relief valve.

Quick to setup, easy to use, and extremely affordable are the key features of the Beholder DS1 3-Axis Camera Stabilizer. The DS1 adds improved payload of 3.8 pounds/1700 grams, room for a camera’s flip out LCD, and micro USB port for wired remote control. The stabilizer has a 32-bit system with dual IMU sensors. The DS1 arrives pre-programed and ready to use out of the box. The stabilizer is lightweight at 2.2 pounds with batteries, and able to operate for 3 hours.

Just like the MS1 the DS1 is compact enough to share a backpack along with other gear such as a camera, lenses, and other accessories. For a small film crew trying to squeeze the most out of a day or for a solo filmmaker limited to what they can carry, the DS1 is the perfect choice. The stabilizer offers the camera movement of a shoulder rig, a slider, a jib, and a stabilizer in a convenient package. The compact size of the stabilizer makes it possible to shoot in locations that normally don’t allow commercial/professional filming. Camera operators of all levels will find the Beholder DS1 Camera Stabilizer to be a rewarding and improved experience.

Supported cameras are the Sony A7 Series, GH4, BMPCC, 5D, 7D, see supported camera section for more supported models. The stabilizer has 3/8 inch mount at the bottom of the handle, great for mounting the DS1 to a monopod for a stunning jib shot. Another feature of the Beholder DS1 Stabilizer is the built in 5 way joystick offering complete control over pan/tilt and mode selection. Included with the stabilizer is a USB charger and travel case.
