About

An interview from the 2016 Sound Summit Orlando, hosted at Full Sail University, with Karl Winkler of Lectrosonics. Lectrosonics wireless microphone systems and audio processing products are used daily in mission-critical applications by audio engineers familiar with the company's dedication to quality, customer service, and innovation. In this interview Karl showcases Lectrosonics’ SSM “Super Slight” micro and HMa transmitters, Venue 2 wideband receivers with IQ Filtering and the latest version of Wireless Designer software.

Lectrosonics has introduced the smallest full-featured UHF bodypack microphone transmitter available - the SSM (Super Slight Micro). Part of the Digital Hybrid Wireless Series, the SSM is fully compatible with all current Lectrosonics receivers including the UCR411A, SR Series, L Series, and Venue Series, along with several older models via compatibility modes. The SSM features a wide tuning bandwidth of three standard Lectrosonics blocks or up to about 76 MHz depending on the specific frequency range.

An infrared sync port on the SSM allows for quick setup with compatible receiver systems. A backlit LCD allows for ease of setup in any lighting conditions. A micro-B USB port makes it possible for firmware updates in the field as advanced features are added in the future. The SSM responds to remote commands for frequency, audio level, sleep modes and other settings from the RM remote unit or 3rd party smartphone apps. The hardened, stainless steel belt clip can be securely attached or easily removed without tools. The SSM is powered by an included 3.7v rechargeable lithium-ion flat pack battery.

Wireless Designer is a software package developed to enhance setup and operation of Lectrosonics' studio and rack receiver systems including Venue, Venue 2 and DR. The software provides an overall view of Lectrosonics' wireless systems, including all receiver mainframes which are connected. A summary of each channel is displayed with real time indications for essential levels and settings on each installed module within the system. With multiple receivers, the main display window can be scaled and zoomed for the desired viewing, and several color themes are provided.

The Wireless Designer software includes a spectrum scanner and coordination package for ultra-fast and confident setup. The receiver can be tuned across the available bands (via the modules) and presented in a graphic display. The data from the scan, along with any custom frequency data (including imported lists), can then be incorporated into the frequency calculations for an accurate, real-world channel coordination. The powerful spectrum scanning and walk test recorder features make site surveys easy.
