About

An interview from the 2016 Cine Gear Expo at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles with Seth Emmons of CW Sonderoptic. CW Sonderoptic designs and manufacturers premium cinema products including the Leica Summilux-C and Leica Summicron-C prime lenses. In this interview Seth introduces two new lenses in the Leica Summicron-C cine lens family, the highly anticipated 40mm T2.0, the previously announced 15mm T2.0.

A timeless blend of technical quality and economical design, the Summicron-C primes feature a consistent T2 aperture across the entire set as well as common dimensions and gear position. The Summicron-C primes design provides a lightweight, compact form factor while still maintaining a generous image circle with enough coverage for todays larger sensors beyond Super 35 format. Available in focal lengths ranging from 18mm all the way to 135mm.

Both the 40mm & 15mm Summicron-C lenses share the iconic Leica “creamy sharpness” image quality that sets Leica cine products apart from other lenses with their favorable, natural treatment of skin tones without sacrificing clarity and resolution. They also maintain the compact, lightweight and reliable build quality of the other focal lengths. While all lenses have matched focus and iris ring locations and 95mm front diameter, the 15mm lens is slightly longer like the 135mm. These lenses bring the growing Leica Summicron-C family of primes to 11 focal lengths, all T2.0. The Leica Summicron-C 40mm lens is expected to deliver in June 2016 with the Summicron-C 15mm to follow in October 2016.
