About
An interview from the 2016 International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam with Tom Crocker of Sony Europe. Sony Corporation is a leading manufacturer of audio, video, imaging, game, communications, key device and information technology products for the consumer and professional markets. With its music, pictures, computer entertainment and online businesses, Sony is uniquely positioned to be the leading electronics and entertainment company in the world. In this interview Tom goes over a wide range of new products that were being shown at the Sony Booth this year, like the Sony E PZ 18-110mm f/4 G OSS Lens, Sony HXR-NX5R Professional Camcorder, Sony AXS-R7 Portable 4K RAW Recorder & Sony FDR-X3000 4K Action Camera.
With a wide focal-length range and a constant f/4 aperture in a compact form factor, the Sony E PZ 18-110mm f/4 G OSS Lens offers videographers and cinematographers a versatile lens choice for lightweight operations. While the lens may seem small, it has professional features to back it up. The 18-110m focal-length range covers moderately wide to narrow angles-of-view. Sony's built-in Smooth Motion Optics leverage the internal mechanics of the lens to minimize focus breathing, focus shifting, and other anomalies that would otherwise be noticeable when adjusting the lens during recording. In addition to a smooth servo zoom, mechanical manual zoom ensures precise control with an immediate response. The desired angle of view can be accurately reached by preventing over or undershoot due to lag. Zoom ring direction can be easily switched as required, smooth, slow powered zoom is supported, and an inner zoom mechanism means that the length of the lens remains constant, regardless of focal length. The focus ring slides back to quickly engage manual focusing. Cinema-standard MOD 0.8 gear teeth are built into the focus ring, enabling use of standard follow focuses without requiring cumbersome focus gear accessories.
The brand new HXR-NX5R is a feature-packed successor to our much-loved HXR-NX5 and NX3, adding latest generation technology for an even smoother workflow and stunning image quality. Extending the NXCAM line of solid-state camcorders, Sony's HXR-NX5R offers improved network functionality over previous cameras in the line, and it allows you to select from XAVC-S 50 Mb/s to AVCHD/DV recording. Suitable for documentaries, corporate, weddings, events, nature, sports, and journalism, the NX5R shoots at NTSC broadcast frame rates from 59.94 to 23.98. The built-in Wi-Fi and FTP wireless connections enable you to send footage to your editor from the camera while on location, instead of having to send the media cards to the editor.
It also offers advanced integration with the new RM-30BP remote controller and MCX-500 switcher. The NX5R was designed alongside Sony’s MCX-500 Multi Camera Live Producer, a robust and cost-effective switcher that makes it easy for one person to run a multi-camera live event shoot.
The durable, dust and splash-proof AXS-R7 Portable Memory Recorder attaches seamlessly to the high end F55 and F5 CineAlta cameras, speeding up the 4K production workflow without compromising quality. The AXS-R7 doubles 4K RAW recording from 60 fps up to 120 fps for the F55 camera compared to previous Sony recorders. For shooting at higher frame rates, the recorder captures 2K RAW at up to 240 fps for the F55 and F5, for playback with 10x super slow motion. Working with high-speed AXSM™ A Series memory cards, the recorder features dual memory card slots for extra security and to extend recording times. The recorder also offers 4K RAW cache recordings up to 30 seconds while in standby mode. The tough, all-metal casing makes the AXS-R7 the ideal companion to the F55 and F5 for all kinds of high-end drama, documentary and wildlife productions.
Incorporating optical image stabilization and 4K recording, Sony's FDR-X3000 Action Camera produces sharp videos and still images with reduced motion artifacts from vibrations and other camera movement. The ultra-wide-angle lens opens up versatile framing options for recording your adventures, and the included underwater housing is watertight to 197', letting you plumb aquatic depths right out of the box.
Originally formulated for Sony's HandyCam line, Balanced Optical SteadyShot (or B.O.S.S., for short) doesn't compromise on the camera's full recording capabilities. The lens itself moves to compensate for excess vibration in a shot, reducing motion artifacts and enabling smoother, sharper videos.
