About
An interview from the 2016 PhotoPlus Expo in New York City with Snehal Patel of Carl Zeiss. Carl Zeiss is one of the oldest existing optics manufacturers in the world and is world renowned for their optical quality. Cinematography lenses from Zeiss have helped to create distinctive images in many famous movies and Camera lenses from Zeiss are used by millions of photographers around the globe: on SLR cameras, rangefinder cameras or mirrorless system cameras, and on Sony cameras, smartphones, in video-conferencing systems and in webcams. In this interview Snehal talks with us about a great tool to turn existing Zeiss photography lenses cinema ready, with one of the new ZEISS Lens Gears.
The ZEISS Lens Gears make ZEISS Otus, ZEISS Milvus and ZEISS Loxia lenses a proper cine-style lens for professional filmmakers quickly without the need for a tool. They are made of lightweight aluminum with a hardened surface coating and are available in four different sizes: mini, small, medium and large. This lens ring allows you to easily equip a lens with an industry-standard 0.8 Mod gear that will enable to use of a follow focus system for smooth, deliberate focus pulls. It attaches quickly and without the use of any tools thanks to a twist-tightening mechanism.
These Lens Gears are supplied with a rubber covered band, the GumGum, which features an adhesive surface to grip and protect the len. This also means the inner diameter can be reduced according to the lens diameter, thus supporting multiple lenses.
