About

An interview from the 2016 NAB Show New York with Mike Nichols of AbelCine. AbelCine is a leading provider of products and services to the production, broadcast and new media industries. With a host of cohesive services, they offer the knowledge, experience and support that creatives need at all stages of production to achieve their vision – on time and within budget. Their philosophy is that creative intent should always drive the choice of the technology. In this interview Mike talks with us about a professional grade cinematic VR system, Jaunt ONE and the 360° VR Nokia OZO Camera with the OZO Live software.

The first professional grade stereographic cinematic VR camera built from the ground up, the Jaunt ONE was designed with visionary VR creators in mind. Following more than two years of intensive research and development, Jaunt’s camera features custom optics, high quality 360-degree capture, and stunning design.

Jaunt ONE (J1-24G) is the first professional-grade camera system specifically designed for capturing high-quality 360º, stereoscopic, cinematic VR experiences. Built from the ground up with visionary VR creators in mind, Jaunt ONE features 24 camera modules with frame-sync, global shutter, 10-stops of dynamic range, and custom 130º FOV lenses with a fixed f/2.9 aperture. Additionally, 360° spatialized audio is supported through ambisonic field recordings, or in post using the Dolby ATMOS toolset.

Crafted by Nokia Technologies, OZO combines the ultimate in engineering capabilities and intelligent design to offer you the best Virtual Reality production experience. OZO is the first Virtual Reality device to capture 360° spherical video and 360x360 surround sound, with the elegant workflow professionals need. OZO captures stereoscopic 3D video through eight (8) synchronized global shutter sensors and spatial audio through eight (8) integrated microphones. Each interchangeable Digital Cartridge provides 45 minutes of recording time, and saves all video and audio to a single file – rather than a handful of SD cards. Software built for OZO enables real-time 3D viewing, with an innovative playback solution that removes the need to pre-assemble a panoramic image - a time-consuming process with solutions currently in the marketplace.

OZO's filmed content can be published for commercially available VR viewing hardware such as head mounted displays (HMDs), with immersive, full 360-degree imaging and spatially accurate original sound. OZO also integrates into existing professional workflows and works with third-party tools, dramatically simplifying content production at all stages.
