In this interview we talk with Jeff about the Vision Research Phantom VEO Digital High-Speed Camera & their Cameo accessories they developed to enhance production ease. Designed to perform in a wide array of scientific and industrial applications, Phantom VEO high-speed cameras provide valuable insight into events that are too fast to be seen with traditional imaging technology. With frame rates that exceed 7,000 frames-per-second (fps) at one-megapixel, VEO 710 and 410 models are perfect for traditional high-speed motion analysis and the four-megapixel VEO 640 and 340 models are ideal for scientific imaging and where higher resolutions are important.
The Phantom VEO 640S is a 4 megapixel camera with over 6 Gigapixels/second throughput. This translates to the ability to record up to 1400 frames-per-second (fps) at its 2560 x 1600 resolution, or over 2500 fps at 1080p HD. The top speed at reduced resolution is 300,000 fps. With the maximum RAM configuration of 72 GB, at 1400 fps the VEO 640 provides over 8 seconds of record time.
The rugged VEO 640S camera model doubles as an incredible research tool and a high-speed camera suited to the media industry thanks to the 35mm 2.5K resolution sensor, on-camera controls, removeable CFast 2.0 media (as opposed to proprietary), plus a compact 5.6lb (2.5kg) 5-inch (12.7cm) cube form factor for compatibility with specialty and remote rigs. The Phantom VEO cameras capture more frames than most comparable cameras due to three on-board RAM memory configurations (18GB/36GB/72GB).
The Cameo accessories include a repositionable top handle, cheese plate, rosette bar and riser for 15mm lightweight support. The cheese plate can accommodate Gold and V-mount battery mounts, which enables battery mounting options on the top, side, and bottom of the VEO.
The Cameo VESA Mount fits onto a 5/8" stud or junior stand and is the most advanced mount on the market in terms of monitor positioning and safety. The unit offers 360 of rotation, allowing for easy monitor leveling or on-the-fly vertical to horizontal repositioning, as well as 230 of tilt adjustment. Internal friction pads prevent monitor slippage when adjusting either axis.
