An interview from the 2018 International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam with Randy Wedick of Band Pro Film & Digital. For over 30 years Band Pro has provided the best new products and solutions for professional cinematographers around the world. Their team actively develops new acquisition technology and have helped create key innovations such as IB/E Raptor primes, Leica Summilux-C and Summicron-C lenses, Zeiss DigiPrime lenses, and many more. With offices in Atlanta, Burbank, New York City, Munich, and Tel Aviv, Band Pro offers the highest level of knowledge and expertise along with the finest equipment and accessories available.
In this interview Randy talks with us about a set up which includes an Angénieux Type EZ-1 Zoom Lens, a IB/E PLx2 VV optical extender and a Matte Box with an IB/e +2.0 Diopter. The result doubles the focal length of the lens and reduces the minimum focus distance, giving you the ability to shoot macro style with the zoom range of the lens.
The PLx2 VV optical extender doubles the focal length of Vista Vision Format PL mount lenses. The extender is the sequel to our successful PLx2 adapter. Thanks to its compact optical and mechanical design, the PLx2 VV is compatible with a wide range of lenses.
The PLx2 VV features high-index, low-dispersion glass to ensure the highest possible resolution and contrast with minimal optical degradation. In doubling the image size, the transmitted light is spread over 4 times the area, decreasing the brightness by two f-stops. To create an optical design that is optimized for modern lenses and digital cameras, the maximum input T-Stop is 1.9.
The PLx2 VV is designed to mount to any digital cinema camera with a native PL mount. The UMS Mount System makes it easy to change the mount to Canon EF, Sony E or others without re-shimming.
IBE diopters slide quickly into any standard 4x 5.65" matte box (Arri, Chrosziel, etc.) from the top or the side and make life on set just a little bit easier.
The Standard Diopter Set consists of three diopters with magnification strengths of +0.5, +0.8 and +2.0. There are nine Specialty Diopters in the series which are available separately. They include a Split (+0.5, +0.8, +2.0), Hole (+0.5, +0.8, +2.0), and a Strip Diopter (+0.5, +0.8, +2.0). Both, +0.5 and +0.8 diopters use a single filter slot and the +2.0 diopter uses two.
