About

An interview from the 2019 International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam with Seth Emmons of Tiffen. Tiffen is a leading manufacturer of imaging accessories for the consumer/professional imaging and the motion picture and broadcast television industries, including: Tiffen optical photographic filters and lens accessories; Steadicam camera stabilizing systems; Lowel location lighting equipment; Domke camera bags and Zing camera covers; Dfx digital effects software; Listec teleprompters; Davis & Sanford tripods and support systems; and Stroboframe flash brackets. In this interview Seth talks with us about the new Lowel Blender XL & Lowel Ego LED fixtures.

Adopting a larger form than its diminutive cousin, the rugged aluminum and steel Blender XL Bi-Color LED Light from Lowel is very portable light source with color that's variable from tungsten to daylight balance or anywhere in between to seamlessly "blend" into any ambient light condition, match other fixtures, or just for creative expression. The light's very high CRI rating of 98 is an indicator of advanced accuracy in the rendering of color. The light is dimmable too, to save you the inconvenience of jockeying it back and forth for your required light intensity. The Blender XL has a 45-degree beam spread putting it in the medium-spot category that facilitates selective lighting even without barndoors

The Blender is ready for worldwide use via its multi-voltage AC/DC power supply, but it will also run on optional batteries via the V-mount plate attached to it. The Blender XL has a 5/8" receiver with an accessory slot that mounts to most industry-standard light stands.

The Lowel Ego Tabletop Fluorescent Softlight, available here with a North American plug, provides professional results. Setup is easy: plug it in, place it on the table, and turn it on. The result is 5000K light output that's ideal for taking digital tabletop shots by collectors, arts and crafts hobbyists, sellers, archivists, and desktop publishers. Ego can also be used for DV talking head shots, digital still portraits, and webcam desktop video conferencing.
