An interview from the 2022 NAB Show New York with Jim McKenna of Facilis Technology. Facilis Technology designs and builds shared storage servers for collaborative media production networks. Their unique Shared File System is included with all Facilis HUB servers and allows complex, cross-OS network environments to collaborate workflow across media production applications and file formats. Whether your job is 4K color grading, VFX compositing or HD craft editorial, working with Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro Creative Cloud, Apple FCPX, DaVinci Resolve, or Avid Pro Tools, Facilis HUB is a shared storage solution that provides the performance and collaboration so that you can create with confidence.

Facilis, a leading international supplier of cost-effective, high performance shared storage solutions for collaborative media production networks, announced immediate availability of version 8.2 and WANLink remote access client.

“Facilis is pleased to be back at the Javits Center for NAB Show NY to connect with our customers and partners. We will be demonstrating our shared storage solutions for content creators in the Digital Media & Entertainment market featuring version 8.2 with innovative software enhancements to improve efficiency, security, and to further facilitate remote workflows”, said Shane Rodbourn, Chief Operating Officer at Facilis. “NAB Show NY hasn’t happened in-person since 2019, so we are excited to be able to meet with many of our value-added Resellers, vendors, partners and customers.”

Facilis WANLink Client – Facilis will show the shipping version of their revolutionary remote workflow feature based on the Facilis Shared File System. Facilis WANLink Client provides a secure, remote link to Facilis storage through the same Facilis Console software used in the facility. WANLink Client can provide secure storage access without latency and complexity of VPN and is available at no additional cost.

Storage volumes mounted remotely with the WANLink feature share the same volume attributes, access rules and permissions with users on the internal facility network. With the push of a button, the administrator can mount secure volumes onto the desktops of remote workstations with no interaction from the remote worker. Bandwidth Priority settings can help remote workstations maintain better throughput when multiple clients are using the same server uplink.

“After working with this feature myself, and seeing all the development and testing that has gone into it, I’m sure WANLink will change our customers’ remote workflow.” said Jim McKenna, CMO of Facilis Technology. “Saving the expense and delay of cloud-based solutions has never been as important. The field-tested stability of our Shared File System and Smart Access Rules ensure data is securely available right now, with the performance required to get the job done.”

Smart Access Rules – HUB version 8.1 earlier this year added features never seen before in the market. Facilis Smart Access Rules is a graphical interface that allows administrators to add custom policies to volume resources, to provide or deny access for users or groups.

Specific paths, folders and file names can be assigned access rules based on user and group. Different than traditional access control lists, this new feature enables:

• Access rules on specific file types to protect critical assets
• Create-only feature secures data after written to general ingest locations
• No-delete options while maintaining project saves and overwrites
